Partnership Pulse: Live from Berlin at the Brandenburg Gate

Episode Overview

From Amsterdam to Berlin: Building Local Partner Communities Across Europe

Asher Mathew and I caught up in Berlin at the iconic Brandenburg Gate to reflect on our PL European Tour and our latest stop in Amsterdam—and wow, what a ride it’s been!

We thought Amsterdam might be a smaller gathering… maybe 30 people. But by the time we wrapped up, over 70 partner professionals had come together. Many of them discovered the event through LinkedIn and simply showed up—evidence of the unmet demand for partner community connections in the region.

What stood out most?

🔹 A local community already forming—thanks to leaders like Hisse, Trayvon, and others

🔹 Participation from a diverse mix: Oracle ISV leaders, VCs, veteran alliance builders

🔹 And yes, a brand-new LinkedIn group for Amsterdam partners was created… at the BBQ that night!

Now in Berlin, we’re seeing the same pattern. People may not know their local partner peers yet, but they’re hungry to connect. And that’s the mission of this tour: build bridges, spark community, and connect leaders in partnerships across Europe.

From Paris to London, Manchester to Amsterdam, and now Berlin, one theme has been consistent:

Partnership professionals want to find each other, learn together, and grow stronger locally and globally.

Asher and I will share a full recap tomorrow with some key takeaways—including answers to questions like what makes a great partner leader and how to increase the impact of your partner program.

Until then… if you’re in Berlin, come join us tonight. And don’t forget to register for Catalyst in Denver, August 21–23. The connections continue there!

All right, we're live. We are here in Berlin, and couldn't be more excited, man, the weather has been gorgeous. It's incredible. The weather, great weather has been following us everywhere throughout Europe, started in Paris and London and Manchester and yesterday and in Amsterdam and tonight in in Berlin. And so here we are at the Brandenburg Gate. Fantastic shot coming down, looking at the whole Boulevard behind and and Asher. What what happened in in Amsterdam this week?

Asher Mathew  0:36
So in Amsterdam, we thought we would get like 30 or so people, and I believe we were over 60 people. I think it was like 70 people by the time we we counted everybody. And what was interesting to to see is before our event, there were two other events that we partnered with the local community on that were done. And so I think the first event, they had about like 12 or so people, and then the next event, they had about 20 or so people. And then, yeah, they had meetups in there, right hissy, and like Trayvon and the other crew that have been working to cultivate relationships inside of the and build a community, a local community there, have done a fantastic job. And it was really awesome to see people catch the event off of LinkedIn and just show up. You know, like we had the person who manages EMEA ISVs for Oracle show up. We had a person who is a venture VC show up. We had folks that have been tenured and building alliances for a very long time show up. So there was a bunch of people that kind of came together, and it was awesome to connect everybody together and really lay the foundation for scaling a partner community in Amsterdam.

Chip Rodgers  1:47
Yeah, it was, it was amazing that people just showed up. They just came by. They were like, Hey, I saw and we talked to them, and they're like, Yeah, we just, we saw it on LinkedIn. I thought we'd come by. So, you know, if, if you're inclined tonight and you want to come by to Berlin. We'll have the link down below and for the location and everything. So just come by.

Asher Mathew  2:04
I think the interesting about Berlin now is we met with a couple of leader, local leaders here, and those leaders actually know more people in the in London, because they said that they saw picture. They identified people in the pictures versus people that are here, and so it's gonna be interesting tonight to see like, who actually knows each other, and what connections we can create, and we can really start things up. But again, I think the big thing is that local communities need to exist, and they need to be tied and partnership leaders needs to do a better job of like connecting people, which is what this whole tour is all about. And that's a really big learning of ours from from these events.

Chip Rodgers  2:44
It's been fantastic and connecting, connecting people together, and that was interesting that, yeah, they were saying a couple of both of them were saying that, that they actually don't know a lot of people in Berlin in partnerships, but they know a lot of people from other other areas. So any, any key learnings from, from Amsterdam, actually, from the whole tour it's been, it's really been fantastic. I think one of the things that's really interesting is that people, there's been a thirst here for people to connect, and they're like, gosh, you know, we just haven't, we didn't even know that there were so many, so many partner people around that wanted to connect and And now everyone's got everyone else's LinkedIn, and they're, they're gonna continue

to grow. That was created literally at the barbecue in Amsterdam. And we're like, wait, you should do this in Slack. And then I'm like, You know what? It

Chip Rodgers  3:35
doesn't matter. Just do whatever. Just connect. Just connect. Yeah, so, all right, well, fantastic weather. We actually just kind of escaped out of Amsterdam just in time. There was some really crazy weather. Our flights were canceled. We ended up on a 5am train to get here to Berlin. It was a seven hour train ride, so we slept like half the way and and here we are. We're here, and just gorgeous weather. And come by tonight and we'll see you. We'll see you at the event. And then don't forget, in August in Denver, go to catalyst. Register and make sure you're at catalyst, where we'll have continue this, this energy and and great connection of partner people. So

Asher Mathew  4:18
tomorrow, Chip and I will do a video to recap some of our main takeaways from the whole tour and and you'll see, like, the theme, the question that we've been asking around, like, what does a great partner leader look like, and What? What? How do you increase the impact of your partner programs? I think between the two of us and the and the folks at in partner, we've all come to the realization of, like, how do we help people increase the impact of their partner programs? And so stay tuned for tomorrow's video.

Chip Rodgers  4:48
Fantastic. All right, Asher, let's go get ready for the event. See you tonight. Yeah, that's right, we've been scootering. All right. See you guys. You.
